MANUFACTURING ENGINEER - LEVEL I/II

Nielsen-Kellerman is seeking applicants for the position of Level I/II Manufacturing Engineer.

This position requires an independent, self-directed and energetic individual with a solid mechanical engineering skill set and an ability and desire to participate in hands-on resolution of daily challenges presented by the manufacture of consumer electronic products. This position will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor and will be focused on the manufacturing floor.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Provide assistance and support to assemblers in resolving manufacturing issues.
  • Recommend resolutions to recurring production challenges.
  • Evaluate non-conforming parts against engineering drawings and documentation. Recommend short and long-term resolutions to problems. Communicate with part manufacturer or vendor where necessary.
  • Track yield data and failure modes and provide analysis and reports.
  • Propose designs for jigs and fixtures and assess performance.
  • Troubleshoot product problems on the floor and after customer return.
  • Assist with the integration of new products into full-scale production: assess first article parts (injection molded, machined, stamped, etc); assemble prototypes and pre-production units; and work closely with senior engineers, cell leaders and assemblers to develop full-scale production processes.
  • Test, measure and assess manufacturing components and processes and prepare reports.
  • Research manufacturing materials such as adhesives, epoxies and paints.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing kaizen events and process improvement teams.
  • Assist in maintenance of process documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree, Technical Degree, Military training or equivalent work experience
  • 2 to 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment (dependant on education)
  • Interest in and knowledge of electronics
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
  • Solid written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • BSME
  • Experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of materials properties and thermoplastic resins.
  • Experience with design and assembly of electronics products, including adhesives & ultrasonic welding
  • Ability to work with machine tools including CNC machines
  • Knowledge of vacuum technology
  • Experience with sensor implementation and design
  • Proficiency with ProEngineer (Wildfire)

This position is full-time with a starting salary between $48,000 and $55,000 dependant on experience and qualifications. Working hours are 7 to 3:45 Monday to Thursday and 7:00 to 1:00 Friday with occasional overtime expected. Benefits include fully-paid medical and dental insurance, disability insurance, generous 401-K plan and tuition contribution for relevant education.
